A charge pump is a fixed/positive displacement pump (normally a gear type) that “charges” or feeds the hydrostatic pump loop. It is normally an integral part of the transmission but can be a standalone or “piggyback” pump off a through drive. Without this simple pump, the whole hydrostatic system will not work. It is the heart of the transmission.
